I have no idea why I am writing this but.....here goes:
When is a good time to ask an athlete for their autograph? I would say for the most part that athletes have an obligation to give the fans a quick autograph say, after a practice, possibly after a game (especially when they win), at a dinner or promotion. I am not saying be Cal Ripken and sign things for 2 hours, but if I saw Bob Sanders at the stadium or on the street I would ask..and I would expect him to sign....I really do not know all the specifics on Peyton Manning's contract with ALL the things he is promoting but darn it, if I see him I want his signature...for most fans to pay all the money for tickets, the jerseys, hats, etc I would say one autograph would be nice...I do understand that some only want an autograph for profit, which I think is ridiculous, but it is the nature of the beast...A player has no idea if I am a fan which would treasure a signature whether I can read it or not or if I am here to sell it to the highest bidder....If I am not obnoxious and overbearing why not sign a piece of paper...why do I have to pay hundreds for something I would treasure as millions, but would be as cheap and easy as a scribble on a piece of paper??? Living in New York, I really do not have the outlet or funds to fly to Indianapolis "hoping" for that one moment I can muster the courage to ask a player to sign my program, etc.. I do know it might be the only way to get my favorite players to sign something for my trophy case. Heck, I would love if the backup punter would sign something for my Colts collection.. Maybe I should bring it up to the front office? Possibly send them a letter asking for a particular player or players autographs on a piece of paper or a picture? We all know it rarely happens...So I am asking you Colts fans, when is the proper time to ask an athlete for his autograph? perhaps never? Well these are my thoughts, yes I have way too much free time....thanks...
