Keys To Beating The Texans (3 Ratings)

Posted 11-3-2009 by ereeper

1. DEFENSE!!!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and claim that this is the best defense the Indianapolis Colts has ever had to start a season.  The addition of Coach Coyer and the rookies has paid huge dividends.  We've been getting key turnovers and sacks in every game recently.  I'm excited to see that trend continue on Sunday.  Every week it seems like we get a new hero or hero's and can't wait to see who is going to be "The Man" this week.

2. Establish The Run

I think we are going to need to run a bit more then last week.  I'm not one of those Addai bashers and I think he has played solid all year.  I want us to keep riding that horse.  The key to the passing game runs through the running game.  If we can keep the Texans guessing whether we are going to run or pass will lead to big plays down the field.  If Brown is back that will be great.  If he's not, we need to get Simpson and/or Hart some touches just to keep that running game going.

3. Coaching

Coach Caldwell has been awesome!!!  I'm glad he was "The Next Man Up" in the head coaching department.  I expect this game to be close like the 49ers game.  If that's the case it may come down to coaching decisions.  When do we go for it on fourth down?  When do we throw the challenge flag?  When do we use our timeouts?  All of those questions can be critical in winning or losing.  I think Coach will be cool under pressure and make the right choices.

4. Shut That Roof!!!

I said it last week and I'll say it again.  It is to our advantage to have that roof shut.  Besides the extra noise it generates it can cost us if the roof is open.  Last week Silva lost one in the sun and it could have been a turnover.  Garcon lost a ball in the sun which ended up being three points instead of a possible seven.  August, September, and maybe even October are fine for open roof games.  It's the second game of November so let's seal that baby until the next preseason and use it to our advantage.

I agree about the roof. I think they are still dangerous, but the Colts will get the job done.

Hopefully losing TE Owen Daniels for the season took a little wind out of the Texans sails.  I can't see them closing the roof with the great weather we're expecting.  They should at least get them some shields on their helmets or facepaint or something if they leave it open though.

If it's open let's hope for overcast and 60's.

Its going to be a tough game for us, I agree w/ you about the roof but if the weather stays where they say it is around high 60's I imagine it will be open

I think the game with the Texans will be close. I hope I am wrong. I hope I am underestimating our defense and their ability to shut down all teams this year. The Texans are weak in pass defense and that is what we live on so they will not stop us from scoring. They have some weapons and Matt Shaub is not slouch. He is having a very productive year. What's more Houston at 5-3 are excited and hungry to win. They are also a division opponent and have played us tough in the last 3 games or so. Close the roof I agree. Dallas Clark lost one in the sun as well. Natures elements are not a friend to the Colts offense. We benefit when everyone can see what is going on.

I would call the Texans dangerous at this time. They must be doing something right by having Matt Schaub at the top of the touchdown list this season ! Besides...I think we have seen that a division opponent can be dangerous no matter how they are playing against the rest of the league,

I see your points about the roof but there are things we can do t make sure we can see the ball even in the sun. It is going to be almost 70 degrees & Sunny on Sunday & I have a hard time believing we will shut the roof. I love your points on defeating the Texans and I believe we will have to be completely in sync for this one. I also believe that won't even be an issue. I think the guys are very good at coming out after a game they weren't real happy about and laying it on hard, fast and with precision. FOREVER LOUD AND PROUD! GOOOOO COLTS!!!!!

I have not watched any of their games.  From what I've heard, they are dangerous.

Have you watched the Texans at all this year?  I haven't been paying attention except to hear the occasional fan mention...................we need to watch out for the Texans.
