A Colts Conspiracy Theory?--Gimme a Break People!

So they interviewed two random people from Indiana and twisted their words to say that Peyton Manning threw the Super Bowl for himself, his teammates, his franchise, and his fans, when he PURPOSEFULLY threw that interception to Tracy Porter. Are you kidding me?!? Well, at least maybe, this writer thinks, Manning threw the interception subconsciously. Uh, yeah, that sounds just like our quarterback!

Now, my beloved #18, who everyone was elevating to god-status in the days prior to Super Bowl XLIV is now, instead a "double agent" blowing the big game to grow his Swiss bank account and benefit his hometown team of New Orleans. These people must really follow football and, especially the career and character of Peyton Manning.

Honestly, what will the sports media think up next?

(On a separate personal note, I still don't agree with everyone saying that that interception is purely Manning's fault. For whatever reason, maybe his knee, maybe he slipped, or was waiting to do his typical drive-and-catch, Reggie lost that catch to a super-hyped Tracy Porter who leaped from five feet behind him. Maybe they finally dissected us enough to know that play was coming, but it was a great defensive play--unfortunately, we know, it was against our team. Of course, I AM just a bit biased about our quarterback! Still love our Colts and I still Believe in Blue!! Is pre-season here yet!?)

Are we really the favorites??

If you listened to Vegas on Conference Championship Sunday a couple weeks back, you would have heard that the Colts were favored by 3+ to 4 points. Since then the spread has grown to as much as 6 points with the Colts still being the "favorites", but.....are they really???

I've been hearing it here and there for almost two weeks now...how the no. 1 offense Saints are going to make their first Super Bowl appearance ever and go against the cerebral Peyton Manning, his varied veteran & rookie targets, and that quick Colt defense. I've been told Drew Brees is as close to a real saint as you can get, so of course, Super Bowl XLIV is going to be a shoot-out. Well, that doesn't make it seem like we're favorites, does it?

But what really got me heated was a poll I (why did I even bother to click on it?) which I read on AOL yesterday where they asked 50 celebrities (mixed entertainers, athletes, broadcasters, TV hosts, etc.)....read carefully....

"Which team do you think is going to win the Super Bowl and what will the final score be?"

Now, let's overlook (for now) that fact that the responses were about 70% in favor of the Saints. But when asked what the score would be, almost everyone explained their prediction with "because that city deserves it" or "it would be good for the city of New Orleans" . (Sidenote: the stupidest answer to me was "because Reggie Bush deserves a Super Bowl ring". That was from Usher. Seriously? Reggie Bush of all their players?!? I don't get it.

Okay, hold up. First of all, I completely understand the sentiment in New Orleans with their long-suffering football franchise finally getting to the big game--I have a lot of family in New Orleans, some of whom lost their houses completely, my uncle and cousin lost their business, etc. My other cousin has had season tickets for the Saints for over almost 20 years now, and was almost embarrassed by that fact before this season. So, I totally understand why it would be great for that city.

My frustration stems more from the fact that nobody is answering the question they were asked!

Why the Saints would win the Super Bowl is not because the City deserves it or it would be good for the City of New Orleans. Winning the Super Bowl is good for any city!!

Why the Saints would win would be if their offense keep our defense guessing and chasing them, and they kept our offense off of the field for even less than 14 minutes the entire game, and they score every drive, and Reggie Bush performs better than he has for 75% of his time in NO, etc.

It seems like on paper we're technically the favorites, but if--I should say when-- we win this Sunday, we'll just be the team that stole the feel-good story from "America's team" (I saw that quote also...apparently, Dallas is out as America's team and New Orleans is in?!)

Since the Super Bowl matchup has been solidified, the reaction from strangers on the street to my Colts scarf or tee shirt or pennant hanging on my office wall has been, "Oh, but it would be nice for the Saints...and Drew Brees is amazing."

HELLO?!?! It would be wonderful for the Colts, for us the fans, for the City of Indianapolis, and for the no. 1 QB of this football era, Peyton Manning. Why are you making me feel guilty for cheering on my team?? Plus, imagine how Peyton must be made to feel about possibly taking a Super Bowl win against the City in which he was raised and his family still lives and loves????

It seems like almost a lose/lose situation for us Colts supporters. Losing the Super Bowl would be beyond-words awful....but win the Super Bowl and we'll be portrayed as the selfish team, and the public and the media will find a caveat to say that Peyton won't be the best until he wins another Super Bowl, blah, blah.

Of course, I'm not stupid. I'll take the win in the Super Bowl and the guilty (but ECSTATIC) feelings afterwards.

GO COLTS!!! I LOVE THIS TEAM!

Just want to give a shout-out to RCA and mycolts.net for providing me with such a fantastic LCD on which to watch my Colts throughout this season.

It was wonderful to be able to stay home and be comfortable while the games were on every Sunday and be able to jump and scream in the comfort of my own living room, as opposed to being in a restaurant or bar and being the sole Colts fan (my boyfriend, remember is ½ a Colts fan, his no. 1 is still the Giants...sigh.) in the place! I've saved so much money by not having to travel out on Sundays and ordering over-priced drinks over the course of 3+ hours! Plus, I don't know how many times I've had to partake in a conversation rivalry with some over-inflated Giants or Jets fans when I've had to go out to catch a game. (Yeah, what are your teams up to now, huh???)

Other football viewers in those bars just don’t seem to understand my game mannerisms. Yes, I’ve explained that I talk to the TV during the entire game–I’m part-broadcaster, part-ref, part-coach, and part-the only fan Peyton or Dwight or Gary or Dallas or Reggie or Pierre, etc. can hear! I also pace or jump back and forth for the entirety of the game.....unless, it’s a big defensive stance...then I find myself kneeling on the ground silent and as if in prayer.

With my new RCA, nobody is squinting at the screen struggling to follow the football..."Was that field goal good??", "Was his foot out or did he drag his toes??". It’s so refreshing to see everything now.

So, for all of you who can't be at those Colts games next season, and especially for those who won't be in Miami this weekend, get your blogs online NOW and try to get yourself your own RCA!! The last LCD is being awarded any day now....it's 52', clear as day, and you'll be the star of any Super Bowl party (aside from the fact that you'll be a huge fan of the winning team!! ) Good luck!

I haven't given up on being in Miami this weekend, but if it turns out that I can't make it happen, at least I can take comfort in the fact that I'm watching my boys on a crystal-clear screen I won because of them! GO COLTS!! I LOVE THIS TEAM!

Best GM: Bill Polian (Way to look beyond the first round of the draft EVERY year! Thanks Bill.)

Best Regular Season Game: Colts, Tampa Bay, Oct. 6, 2003. ( That's my game--I mention it ALL THE TIME. That's when I thought...a game is NEVER over until it's OVER.)

Best Playoff Game (Non Super Bowl): Steelers, Colts, 2005 AFC Game. (Okay, this one hurts, a lot. I remember it like it was yesterday. In fact, I sprained my boyfriend's younger brother's arm watching when Roethlisberger made that tackle. And Vanderjagt actually made me cry!)

Best Team Rivalry: Colts v. Pats (Need I say more? I think my heart stops for the entirety of each game between these two teams.)

Best Individual Rivalry: Peyton v. Tom (Haha...not anymore!)

What?!?! Give Up? Never.

Even though everyone today is entranced with the Saints' pounding of our arch-rival Patriots, the most conversation-worthy topic which I gathered from last night's MNF matchup was the fact that with 5 plus minutes on the clock and down by three scores, the New England Patriots pulled their superstar starters and basically forfeited the game!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!

First of all, don't think for a minute that I was cheering for NE to win this one. I wanted them to lose and lose big so that people can stop calling Tom Brady a god and league MVP, etc. But this was just sad for football......period. Seeing Baby Brady and his "genius" Coach standing on the sidelines watching the last half of the 4th Quarter, rathering than having some faith in abilities that every sportsbroadcaster has raved about since the early 2000's was pathetic. Stop sulking and make some plays NE!

I guess we're the only team that feels that confidence, poise, and execution can get you whatever number of points you need to get the W no matter how many seconds are (or are not) left in the 4th quarter.

Score 23 points with 4 minutes left Tampa Bay circa 2003 to WIN--done.

Have your offense on the field for less than 15 minutes TOTAL in Miami and still win by 3 after trailing by 7 at the start of the 4th--done.

Down by 14 with 4 minutes left at home against your hated rival in week 10 of 2009 season and make 2 TD's in 2 minutes, 10 seconds to WIN--done.

Moral of the story is....NEVER GIVE UP!........ because we'll never give up....

and that's why the Colts are going to Superbowl XLIV to win in Miami again.....and the "best team of this decade" Pats will be sitting in Foxborough in the snow come February!

So now we're considered "placid" fans?!?

Dave Goldberg's newest story on AOL Sports ranks us as no. 2 to the Saints. In his rationale, he says that Colt fans are "placid" so we're going to be fine with the no. 2 spot. Here's the link to it....

"Placid" like passive?? like apathetic???

It's kind of a broad adjective that can make us seem .....calm? ......composed perhaps?? Like we're not ones to advocate for dirty plays, cursing out the refs & our players (cursing out the man trying to sell you a hotdog at the stadium) (hello, Foxborough regulars!)...or we're not fans who worship a QB who curses out his own fans (yes, I've seen Philip Rivers do that!).

Okay, I guess I could live with being part of a collectively "composed" fanbase...........but,

does the author mean it as a jab at us that we, as fans, are not as riled up about our team, our standing, our position versus other NFL squads as other teams' fans are??

I know I've been spending a lot of energy on this topic lately but I guess I'm one of those "folks" referred to in his column...getting all angry and defensive about where my boys are in the rankings. But I'm seriously sick of people (in the media and just the average football fan in the bar) constantly making excuses about what they think the Colts can't do, rather than what they are doing--what they have done for YEARS.....

that's WIN, WIN, WIN..and with CLASS and INTEGRITY and TEAMWORK!!!!

Finally...they give us #1 in the Power Rankings!

It's about time! I know that supposedly the sports publications and websites have their mathematical equations or whatever to determine where all the teams fall in the rankings each week; however, am I the only one who thinks the Colts have been getting the short end of the stick for the first part of the season??

I know that the Saints being ranked no. 1 all these weeks has been the feel-good story, but, as every year, the Colts are consistently (and up until this past primetime battle with the Pats) quietly winning.

I would have had a HUGE problem if the Colts did not take over the no. 1 spot after that nearly heart-stopping full 60-minute battle with New England.........whereas the Saints BARELY clung to their lead against the Rams. Actually, though, most websites who ranked the teams this morning still have New Orleans at no. 1 by a fraction of a percentage. Oh well--same old story. Our team doesn't get the respect it deserves.

In that regard, I'd also like to point out that, even without what the sports broadcasters are calling "Bill's gift" to the Colts by going for it on 4-and-2 with 2 minutes left on Sunday night, I faithfully knew that Peyton would march our boys down the field 80 yards for an amazing touchdown had the Pats punted the ball at that point! If any team can come from (way) behind to win a game in just a few minutes, it's the COLTS!!! So much is being said about Bill losing the game for his team, rather than the Colts being competent enough to win regardless!

Let's Go Colts....here's feeling confident about 16-0 and a win in Miami again in February. Peyton for 4-time MVP!

Accoring to NFL Fanhouse.com, here's the list.....ugh, my favorite is at #1. Figures.

I guess the Colts fall in between on the list, I'm hoping they made #7 and that's the only reason they're not included.

I am surprised that Norv is so near the bottom--I mean, we see what's unfolding in San Diego this season, but only 6 games ago--back in January, they would've been this close to the top spot.

What does everyone think of Jeff Fisher doing a big trench coat reveal of a Peyton jersey before introducing beloved Tony Dungy at a charity fundraiser at the Lipscomb University in Nashville?? He did it in fun, sticking out his chest to flaunt the jersey and saying, he "wanted to feel like a winner" that day.

It's cute as a Colts fan; however, "some" Tennessee fans are taking offense to it, which I can understand, given we're in the midst of a season here and they're really suffering already. Fisher defended himself, saying he would do it all over again if he had the chance, and the focus of the event should have been the charity.

Anyway, it's seem Peyton and the Colts are maybe, finally getting some respect for being winners as players and as good people. But I definitely will not be holding my breath to see Norv Turner or Bill Belichick modeling same! =)

How I Watch My Colts on Game Day:

Sunday is the highlight of my week during NFL season. I awake early and remember to put on my blue #18 jersey and my lucky horsehoe-charm necklace in anticipation of a Colts victory. Here's the intriguing part now: I live in New Jersey (the actual home to not one, but two NFL teams as you know) and finding a Colts game airing on television here is virtually impossible, unless it's a prime-time, nationally-televised game. This leads to one of two scenarios for me on game day.

Scenario #1. If the Colts are playing at 1:00pm or 4:15pm EST, the game is never shown on.....regular cable (that's right Peyton, I said it, I admit I'm still "watching on cable"). I've got, at most, two channels to choose from for Sunday football and, undoubtedly, both will be showing the NY Giants, NY Jets, or one of their division's rival's games. I've tried following Colts games online the past few years and, I'm sorry, but listening online just does not do justice to the amazing, "Can you believe that?!?" plays produced by my Colts. Consequently, I now take my boyfriend and we head over the border into New York to go to a popular bar/restaurant chain famous (you’ve seen the commercials, I’m sure) for showing any and all sports games and serving "wild" buffalo wings. Once we get there, I will case out the entire restaurant (to the chagrin of the host) to see where I need to sit based upon which television (singular) out of about two dozen televisions they will broadcast the Colts on.

So far, I've watched the season opener against the Jags on the smallest TV they had (with no sound or closed captioning), in the actual dark corner of the restaurant, hanging right above a deer-hunting video game. And I've discovered that playing a video deer hunting game is a popular Sunday activity, especially with the children of the other football fans who are all either cheering on the Giants, Jets, or Patriots (I know, don't even get me started on that.). I've also been stuck in watching the Colts play the Seahawks on the baby TV overshadowed by a grid of four huge projector TV's broadcasting the local games with sound! This is how a Colts fan in this neck of the woods is treated. RCA, please save me from shelling out money on overpriced wings and drinks, in addition to gas and tolls.

Anyway, I will order my wings & beverages and spend the entire 3+ hours of the game squinting at the TV and yelling out cheers of support for the smart plays, great catches, strong defensive stances, etc of my Colts. Unfortunately, there are no other Colts fans to high-five after an Indy touchdown, except my boyfriend who's more of a Giants fan anyway and who becomes easily distracted by the multiple, enormous TV's with sound showing the Giants. After the game, however, I proudly flaunt my jersey and my grin all the way home where I put on Sportscenter highlights to try and re-live the win.

Scenario #2. Now, if the Colts are playing prime-time Sunday or Monday Night (thankfully, there have been three games like that already this season!), I will be watching same from home...........on my 17" tube TV. Oh the shame. I must have my snacks prepared beforehand and I will be in my game-day "uniform" of course. Then I will set up my three stuffed-animal Colts teddy bears (which by the way, I won from a claw game last summer on the Jersey Shore boardwalk) so that they face the TV. These stuffed animals are my Colts fan posse. I have named one Peyton of course, the others are named Reggie and Dallas.

I then grab my replica yellow flag and red challenge flag and keep them near me on my chair, which I, believe it or not, I do not even sit in. This is because I spend almost the entire game standing about five feet from the TV (perhaps because the screen is so small and dull to begin with) and JUMPING in place (it’s quite possible that one day I may actually jump so hard as to fall through to apartment downstairs), and YELLING out to the players through the TV as if I'm on the field and as if they can actually hear me or care what I'm shouting.

And then I watch the game......and

I shout with each hand-off to Joseph or Donald, and

I jump when Peyton releases a bullet of a pass only Dallas can catch or hurls a perfectly-placed ball right into Reggie's hands up the sideline, and

I pace back-and-forth with Colt defensive stances against a 3rd-and-2 ("Spin Dwight, spin! Get him! Yes!"), and

I kneel in prayer before a Vinatieri (or now Stover) field goal attempt, and

I throw my penalty flag liberally against the other team, and

I throw my challenge flag occasionally at the refs, and

I really don't even eat the snacks which I've prepared because I’m too busy yelling and being in the game, and

I never panic even when the Colts have fewer points than their opponents on the board, and

I just watch and wait for my Colts to finally finish with the "W", and

I just be the Colts fan that I am.

So that's how I watch my favorite NFL team, and that epitomizes why watching the Colts on an RCA LCD would be AMAZING! Then I wouldn't be constrained to watch Colts football in some dark, noisy corner of a chain restaurant while surrounded by deer-hunters on a small TV hoisted 9 feet in the air or on a small TV hanging under four 5-foot TV's showing every other game!

If I could watch from home on a new LCD from RCA, I would sign up for high-def immediately and subscribe to see ALL of my Colts games (and their inevitable trip to this season’s Superbowl) without the shame of admitting that I would be forced to watch them on a 17" tube television. With a new, large LCD from RCA, I could possibly stand farther than two yards from the TV as I watch it the game......or maybe even attempt to stay seated in my chair and just cheer from there. At the very least, if I decide to still stand the entirety of a Colts game, at least the players look big enough and defined enough to warrant my yelling out at them from my living room, right? I think so anyway. So please consider sending one of those RCA LCD's my way to New Jersey. This Colts fan is hurtin' here!

Is anyone else even quasi-interested in having Mr. Rhodes back on the field in the blue and white now that the Bills cut him? I know, I know, there's some spotty-ness to his production and a couple of problems with some partying.....but I guess I'm a little nostalgic. (You had your chance, Marvin.) But I appreciate his being one of the heroes of XLI and it couldn't hurt to have another RB in the mix behind Joey and Donald (--who so far, I'm really liking!)

Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU for bringing Tom and Howard back onto the payroll! That is the best Colts news I've heard in a while. I know Peyton (and myself) are breathing a little easier now.
